Miami advances to ACC quarterfinal against Virginia Tech

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Back in January, Elizabeth Kitley had 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team to a 76-52 rout of visiting Miami.

The Hurricanes will get another crack at the Hokies on Friday. And this time, Miami might not have to deal with Kitley.

Ninth-seeded Miami rallied past eighth-seeded North Carolina 60-59 in the second round of the ACC tournament Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The Hurricanes (19-11) will face top seed Virginia Tech, which had a double bye, in a quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The 11th-ranked Hokies practiced for about 45 minutes Thursday morning at the Greensboro Coliseum, but Kitley was not present.
