ATASCOSA, Texas – A 10-year-old was killed in a fatal crash in Atascosa County Thursday afternoon.
Around 12:45 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers say they responded to a crash involving a semi-trailer and a Jeep on SH 16, South of Encino Drive.
According to TX DPS, both vehicles were traveling South on SH 16 when the semi-trailer made a right turn onto a business road, and the Jeep struck the semi-trailer from behind.
TX DPS said the driver of the Jeep Compass, 53-year-old Juan Ibarra Becerra, was airlifted to a medical center in San Antonio. The passenger of the Jeep, a 10-year-old child, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured.
The next of kin has been notified, TX DPS says.
The investigation is ongoing.
