ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A teen was killed and another was injured during a shooting in southwest Atlanta, according to police.
Police said officers responded to 1191 Oakland Drive SW on Wednesday around 8:10 p.m. and found two 16-year-old boys suffering from gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, the other is alert, conscious and breathing.
Investigators say one of the teens shot the other teen, wounding him. Then that teen returned fire, killing him.
“The assailant shot the surviving 16-year-old who returned fire, striking and killing him,” said Lt. Andrew Smith, homicide commander with the Atlanta Police Department.
Police say they’re aren’t ruling out the possibility the deadly shooting was gang related.
“At this point we’re not sure if this is gang related. We do have gang investigators on scene,” Smith said.
The investigation is ongoing and so far, police haven’t said if the surviving teen will face any charges.
