PHOENIX – Four sections of the metro Phoenix freeway system will be closed for roadwork this weekend.
Motorists should be on the lookout for construction zones on Interstate 17, State Route 143 and two segments of Loop 101, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Feb. 28-March 3. (All times below are subject to change.)
In Scottsdale, the Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed from Shea Boulevard to Princess Drive/Pima Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
The northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Via de Ventura and 90th Street are included in this closure.

Traffic can detour via Scottsdale Road to bypass the closure, which is for bridge work as part of an ongoing widening project.
Further west, the eastbound Agua Fria Freeway segment of Loop 101 will be closed from 35th Avenue to I-17 in Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign structure removal as part of a widening project.
Traffic can bypass this closure via surface streets, with Deer Valley Road and Union Hills Drive the closest options.
Where are the closures on I-17 and SR 143?
In north Phoenix, southbound I-17 will be closed from SR 74/Carefree Highway to Loop 303 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday as crews wrap up work on a pavement improvement project.
The southbound I-17 on-ramps at SR 74 and Dove Valley Road are included in this closure.
Local surface streets, which aren’t designed for heavy use, should not be used as a detour, ADOT said. Instead, southbound I-17 traffic should take westbound SR 74 to southbound Lake Pleasant Parkway to eastbound Loop 303 to bypass the closure.
Meanwhile, a shorter closure is scheduled for SR 143 (Hohokam Expressway) near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Northbound SR 143 will be off limits from I-10 to the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway for pavement marking work from 7 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday.
At the same time, northbound 48th Street will be closed from Broadway Road and I-10.
Westbound I-10 traffic will have to use the west entrance, via Buckeye Road, to reach the airport.
Other metro Phoenix freeway restrictions
In addition to the closures, the following metro Phoenix freeway restrictions will be in effect this weekend:
- The southbound Loop 101 Price Freeway frontage road will be closed from Southern Avenue to Fremont Drive from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for pavement maintenance.
- The westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) ramp to eastbound I-10 in Tempe will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for barrier maintenance.
- Both HOV lane ramps at the I-10/US 60 interchange will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for barrier maintenance.
