PHOENIX — Construction has begun on a 237-unit affordable housing community in downtown Phoenix, which will offer living spaces from studios to three-bedroom homes.
The housing complex, which is called The Moreland, will be located at Moreland and Third streets. It will be constructed in two phases, with 132 units to be installed in Phase 1 by approximately December 2027, according to a Thursday press release.
Prospective residents can expect amenities such as spaces designed for teen and youth, multiple fitness centers and various onsite supportive services for academics, health and wellness coaching, financial education and more.
There will also be a four-tier parking garage for the two five-story buildings of the affordable housing complex.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said this development is “a testament to our dedication to creating a community where families can thrive.”
“Phoenix will continue to support developments like this to meet the needs of our residents and grow an inclusive downtown,” Gallego added.
Phoenix Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington, who was selected by the city council to the position in January, said this development’s location in the heart of the city makes sure future residents can save money while also being “rooted in opportunity.”
Brinshore Development and SPS+ Architects are handling development and construction of The Moreland.
