Kent Johnson and other Blue Jackets headed to Florida during the early part of the NHL’s pause for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Unlike his teammates, Johnson had more to do there than soak up the sun. He also married his fiancée, Yasmeene, a model from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They tied the knot in front of family and friends with a small ceremony near the water in Sarasota, Florida, on the state’s gulf side.
“Earlier we were thinking, like, a bigger wedding, but then we kind of changed plans and did the smaller one at the break,” Johnson said. “Originally, we were thinking summer, big one, but we just did a smaller one … like, family and stuff. And my best friend made it, so it was good.”
Johnson, 23, returned to practice with the Blue Jackets on Feb. 18 at Nationwide Arena’s Ice Haus rink and told reporters the wedding didn’t include a long planning period, and Yasmeene mostly took care of things.
“We got engaged before the season, like, a couple months before I left for Columbus,” Johnson said. “So, it was quick, but she did a good job planning it all. I didn’t do much of the planning.”
So, how’s life as a married man?
“It’s cool,” Johnson said. “It’s great. It’s a little different, but it’s good.”
