ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A day to learn about Hispanic Culture at The Sheldon in Grand Center. The event included several performances along with arts and crafts.
“The music is real nice, and the costumes are really pretty,” said Charlotte Rose. She says it was her first time experiencing the culture.
Lizett Mada is a performer and loves what she does. Mada says Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and more are represented. Decades of dancing are one way she honors tradition and believes it is a way to bring people together.
“For Latinos, community is everything, family is everything, so just for everybody to gather here, food, amazing dancing, and good environment, that is something very important for all Latinos, all Latino American countries, Hispanic,” said Mada.
Dozens of dancers of all ages took the stage. Proud parents and family capturing the moments. From performances to arts and crafts and even food, this event is just one of several local non-profits The Sheldon works with to highlight different cultures in St. Louis.
“To open up our building and to offer this space to highlight the amazing performers here and to be able to do it for free because of the generosity of the people that support The Sheldon,” said organizer Laurel Wacyk.
“The culture of Latino and community of St. Louis is growing and is really empowering younger generations to continue rising,” said Mada.
