PHOENIX — Firefighters extinguished a fire that engulfed a strip mall in south Phoenix Sunday morning.
The Phoenix Fire Department responded around 5 a.m. to a reported structure fire near 16th Street and Southern Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the back of the strip mall, authorities said.
The fire was later upgraded to a second-alarm fire, meaning additional resources were required due to the size of the fire and building.
Ladder trucks with master streams were used to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses, officials said.
The fire is under control, and the investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
