KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After complaints from players and coaches over the new glass court used during the men’s and women’s Big 12 Basketball Championships, the conference is ditching the court ahead of the men’s championship final.
On March 13, there were many reports that players and coaches had been complaining that the new glass court was to slippery and causing players to get injured, which led to a decision to change back to a hardwood court.
T-Mobile Center where both championships took place, was able to complete the women’s tournament and started the men’s bracket with the glass court.
Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormack released a statement overnight stating that the move was done to provide athletes comfort ahead of the championship game.
In a statement, Yormark said “After consultation with the coaches of our four Semifinal teams, I have decided that in order to provide our student-athletes with the greatest level of comfort on a huge stage this weekend, we will transition to a hardwood court for the remainder of the Tournament. We look forward to a great Semifinals and Championship Game.”
