San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is leading a delegation in Taiwan to discuss the future of advanced manufacturing.
Several members of the mayor’s newly established Economic Security Advisory Group will join her. The mayor says there’s a benefit to partnering with San Antonio.
“What I have found in speaking with companies is they know Austin, they know Houston, they know Dallas… But they don’t know San Antonio as well,” said Ortiz Jones. “They don’t know that Austin is 15% higher to do cost of business and San Antonio is 10% lower. So just within 70 miles, you have a 25% delta in cost of doing business on top of what I would argue is a great quality of life that you have here.”
Among the companies the mayor will be meeting with will be the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which produces advanced chips for industries that include AI.
