PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Phoenix police officer was hospitalized with serious injuries after a car collided with a patrol vehicle Monday evening.
The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. near 7th Avenue and Indian School Road.
Officers were in the area when a car traveling in the opposite direction collided with them.
Phoenix Fire personnel took one officer to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. A second officer was transported out of an abundance of caution.
The other driver involved was not hospitalized.
Police said the driver of the car lost control and swerved left of the center lane, hitting the patrol car.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but police say speed may have been.
The driver was detained, and potential charges will be determined when the investigation is complete.
