A Spanish-language concert called Adoración Sin Límites (Adoration Without Limits) is planned for Saturday, May 2, at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, sponsored by the Catholic Marriage Movement, Archdiocese of New York.
The concert is set to begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m., followed immediately by a one-hour Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The lead concert performer is JonCarlo, a prominent Catholic singer-guitarist who is New York-born and currently California-based. He is of Dominican ancestry.
Also performing will be vocalist Lucy Hilario, born in the Dominican Republic and based in New York, and a male vocal duo called RioSquad (Denny and Carlos). The two are also Dominican-born and now reside in New York.
Witnessing through music
“She has had many years of following the Lord in various ways, and now she is dedicated to doing so by singing praise music,” Maximo Correa, co-coordinator of the Catholic Marriage Movement, said of Hilario in an April 15 phone interview with The Good Newsroom. “Her musical ministry is primarily based on Eucharistic Adoration, that is her forte.”
Correa said RioSquad (River Squad) performs “the music of God through the musical sounds of the streets – such as rap; so, they are very good for the young people (teens and young adults). That is their specialty, singing songs for the young people.” Correa said the duo sometimes performs in Spanish and English, but their May 2 performance will be in Spanish.
As for JonCarlo, Correa said his approach is general praise music, but also includes lyrics based on Eucharistic adoration. There will be no talks, but all the performers often offer brief inspirational spoken words between songs.
“I am familiar with their music. I’ve seen them perform,” Correa said of all four vocalists. “They are very spiritual, very Catholic. The concert in general will attract the youth and adults, as well as older adults. Also, it will draw people who follow the various Hispanic Catholic spiritualities that are lived here in New York, especially in the South Bronx — those are the spirituality of the Charismatics, the spirituality of Cursillo, the spirituality of Emaus, and the spirituality of the Catholic Marriage Movement.”
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
“They can sing for all those ministries, and that is why we chose them,” he noted. “It is called Adoration Without Limits because there will be many songs of adoration, and we will end the evening with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.”
This will be the fourth concert at Cardinal Hayes sponsored by the Catholic Marriage Movement, presented every two years, always in May, with a different title and theme. The ticket cost is $60 per person. For admission or general information, call the Catholic Marriage Movement at (342) 862-0489, or email familia3mc@yahoo.com.
