ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — One half of Atlanta’s own rock-folk duo The Indigo Girls says she has an incurable medical diagnosis.
Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls announced recently on Instagram that she has been diagnosed with two incurable movement disorders—cervical dystonia and an essential tremor—which directly affect her neck muscles and singing voice.
“Many of you have noticed that my voice is not what it once was,” Saliers said. “I am unable to hold a straight tone,” she said, noting that such singing is what many fans have come to know and love about the group.
Saliers, 62, noted that her voice will not return to its previous state, but she plans to continue touring with Amy Ray.
“Unfortunately, there is no cure for these and the honest fact is that my voice will not be what it was,” she said.
Saliers and Ray met in elementary school in Decatur and have been performing together since high school.
