A moose left the inspiration for a sweet treat along with her droppings while passing through a Pinebrook neighborhood.
Roxii was a beloved fixture that roamed the Pinebrook, Summit Park and Jeremy Ranch neighborhoods for at least 15 years before she died in 2023. She spent a good deal of that time in the Stanfield family’s Pinebrook yard.
“She became the wild family pet,” Nissa Stanfield said. “She was always here and non-threatening. No one bothered her, and she didn’t bother anyone. She left her little droppings all over the yard.”
Nissa’s son, Riland, noticed that the moose droppings looked a lot like chocolate-covered almonds. Which led, more or less naturally, to an idea.
In 2022, Nissa and her daughter, Lace, made a business out of a sweet iteration of Riland’s observation.
Park City PU PU offers a playful take on a gourmet treat: chocolate-covered almonds and cherries inspired by, well, Roxii, rest her sweet soul.
But don’t let the cheeky name fool you. Park City PU PU’s treats are high quality. They use organic or non-GMO ingredients and eco-friendly packaging.
Nissa, a former nutritionist with marketing experience, home-schooled both her children and had a goal of teaching them entrepreneurship.
Their products include plump cherries and roasted almonds covered in rich dark chocolate and toffee. The different shapes of the candies look just like something found in the woods. Each bite is a nod to the outdoors.
“Things were just so heavy after COVID, my daughter suggested we do something funny, that lightens up the mood,” Nissa said. “She wanted to pay tribute to Roxii.”
The mother-daughter duo offers three products in various sizes.
“A lot of people tell us they like it, it’s fun,” Lace said.
Nissa and Lace said they are looking forward to bringing Park City PUPU to more high-end hotels and boutique shops.
For now, Park City PU PU can be found at The Market in Park City, Black Rock Mountain Resort, and select farm stands. For more information, visit parkcitypupu.com.
