Brock Lesnar’s in-ring career in wrestling is seemingly over, but could the former WWE Universal Champion be poised for a return to MMA?
Lesnar was beaten by Oba Femi at WWE WrestleMania 42 (Night Two) and left his boots and gloves in the ring, signifying his retirement from competition.
During a recent video from his YouTube channel, however, the UFC’s Chael Sonnen questioned if Lesnar could don his gloves again for an MMA return. He said,
“I’m here to tell you right now, there is a dollar amount. I don’t know that sum. $25 million would be very close. There is a dollar amount where Brock Lesnar will fight on Netflix against Francis Ngannou. He just has to be given the opportunity. When somebody says they’re retired, it just means, ‘I don’t have opportunities in front of me right now.’
“Does he want to be known as the guy that used to be a pro wrestler? Maybe. I’m curious, I’m asking the question. That would certainly get you more notoriety and attention… But it wouldn’t be the same purity of that attention.”
After leaving WWE in 2004 following WrestleMania 20, Lesnar joined the UFC in 2007, quickly rising through the ranks to become a top name in the business.
Lesnar retired from the UFC in 2011 and returned to WWE the following year. He returned to the UFC for a one-off fight in 2016.
While WWE has heavily suggested that Lesnar has retired from professional wrestling, fans are yet to receive verbal confirmation from Brock himself.
