ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The city of Atlanta is heading into day five of water issues, but the good news is progress is being made.
Some people may now have running water, but others still have to boil it. The boil water advisory for people living near Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and JP Brawley Drive intersection has been lifted, but the advisory remains in place for the Midtown area near West Peachtree Street and 11th Street and neighborhoods in east Atlanta.
The City of Atlanta posted an update Tuesday morning on the repairs happening in Midtown. They said crews were installing a new pipe at W. Peachtree Street & 11th Street and posted photos of the old and new pipes.
Mayor Andre Dickens and his team created a map that people can check to see if they still need to boil their water. Residents can type in their address to see if their home is under a boil water advisory.

So, what’s next for people in Atlanta? Atlanta News First has learned the all-clear could take one more day. Crews continue to work around the clock on the repairs. Once the repairs are complete, they’ll have to collect water samples and then wait 18 hours to see if the test comes back clean.
As soon as the water test results come back clean, the boil water advisory will be lifted for those impacted by the Midtown water main break.
Mayor Dickens said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will have “boots on the ground” in Atlanta on Tuesday to help assist the city in identifying and addressing the issues with the current water system.
Summer school programs for Atlanta Public Schools are canceled again for Tuesday due to the ongoing issues. The school system was forced to cancel classes on Monday as well. Right now, there’s no word on when APS will resume operations.
People in need of water can pick up one case per household at the following fire stations:
- Station 1: 71 Elliot St.
- Station 2: 1568 Jonesboro Rd.
- Station 10: 447 Boulevard SE
- Station 11: 165 16th St.
- Station 15: 170 10th St.
- Station 16: 1048 Joseph E Boone Blvd.
Port-a-potties are also available at these stations.
Atlanta Fire is also distributing water at the following locations on Tuesday, June 4 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.:
- W. Peachtree and 10th Street
- W. Peachtree and 12th Street
- Peachtree Walk and 11th Street
