Southern Connecticut men’s track & field standouts Osaretin Osagie and Jonathan Volpe were selected for the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday, May 12th. Osagie was selected in the 400m Hurdles, and Volpe was selected in the 1500m.
Osagie will head to his second consecutive outdoor national championships after a dominant season. After winning the 60m Hurdles at the 2026 Northeast 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, he took home gold in the 110m Hurdles and 400m Hurdles at the NE10 Outdoor Championships, also winning both events at the New England Championships. He clinched his trip to nationals by breaking the NE10 Championship and SCSU Program record in the 400m Hurdles at the NE10 Championships with a time of 51.18, which ranks sixth in the nation. At last year’s national championships, he earned All-American Second Team honors when he finished 11th in the 110m Hurdles.
Volpe returns to the track & field national stage for the first time since the 2024 indoor national championships. He has been dominant since the fall, winning the NE10 and NCAA East Region individual cross country championships, becoming the first Owl to win the East Region race. During the Indoor season, he ran the third-fastest 1000m in Division II history, breaking the SCSU program record. He broke his own 1500m record twice during the outdoor season, including at last weekend’s New England Championships, where he beat his previous best time by almost two seconds to clinch his spot at nationals. This will be Volpe’s first time competing at the outdoor national championships. He came one spot short of earning All-American honors at the cross country championships this season.
Osagie and Volpe will head to Francis G. Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas next weekend, where competition will take place from Thursday, May 21st to Saturday, May 23rd.
