Milwaukee Wraps Up Final Qualifier Ahead of NCAA West Prelims

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Milwaukee track & field teams competed at the NCAA Final Qualifier hosted by UW-La Crosse at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex Thursday.
 
Olivia VanZeeland took home the top spot in the high jump, clearing 1.64 meters. Macy Woodward was not far behind, finishing fourth while also jumping 1.64 meters.
 
The long jump title went to Nevia Levenhagen for the second straight meet. She jumped 5.97 meters to win the event.
 
Also nabbing the long jump crown was Anthony Buford, who registered a season-best 7.43-meter leap. Tim Maidment also had a solid outing, jumping a personal-best 7.03 meters.
 
The jumps success continued for the Panthers, with Bishop Bufford securing the top spot on the podium in the triple jump. The senior registered a 14.69-meter effort.
 
In the 100-meter dash, Angelica Refinski ran a personal-best time of 12.12 to advance to the finals of the event. She clocked a time of 12.24 to finish seventh.
 
The team of Refinski, Isabel Roloff, Victoria Evtimov, and Katie Burns recorded a runner-up finish in the 4×100 relay, turning in a time of 46.12. The effort currently ranks second in the Panther record books for the event.
 
Burns also shined in the 400-meter run where she won the event, crossing the line in 55.36. Competing in the 200-meter dash as well, the senior ended fourth with a 24.49 outing.
 
In discus, Josh Cygan threw 49.61 meters, which was good for sixth place.
 
Ty Bauschelt battled in the 400-meter run, taking home runner-up honors with a time of 47.10. Buford also competed in the event, clocking a time of 48.67 to finish fifth.
 
Racing in the 3000-meter steeplechase was Sam Schreiber, who crossed the line third with a time of 9:13.63.
 
Emma Johnson was the top Panther finisher in the pole vault, clearing 3.71 meters which was good for sixth. Ella Laughbaum chipped-in a 3.56-meter effort.
 
UP NEXT
 
Qualifying athletes will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds hosted by Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., May 27-30. The meet will be held at John McDonnell Field.
