One of the best seasons the Boston College baseball team has had since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference hit some serious turbulence Thursday.

The fourth-seeded Eagles lost, 8-2, to fifth-seeded Miami in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte, N.C.

BC (36-21) will head into the NCAA Tournament having lost four straight — outscored 46-5 — and seven of its last eight.

The Eagles jumped in front against the Hurricanes, getting both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jack Toomey, a Wellesley resident and St. Sebastian’s grad, delivered a two-out, RBI single that scored Ty Mainolfi from second base. Kyle Wolff, an Andover resident and Middlesex graduate who went 2 for 4, followed with a double that plated Toomey.

Miami countered with four in the second against BC starter A.J. Colarusso. Fabio Peralta delivered the big blow, a two-run homer to give the Hurricanes a 3-2 lead.

Alex Sosa hit a two-run homer in the fourth to push Miami’s lead to 6-2.

Colarusso, a Leominster resident who attended Groton, took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits over five innings.

After a shaky opening frame, Miami starting pitcher Lazaro Collera settled in and only yielded one more hit and two free passes. The Eagles only had one runner in scoring position over the final eight innings.

BC shortstop Julio Solier, a Springfield Central grad, reached three times from the leadoff spot with a single and two walks.

The Eagles now await Monday to learn their NCAA pairing, date and destination.
