The Vegas Golden Knights secured a 3-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals on Friday night.
The Golden Knights now lead the series 2-0.
Vegas had an early opportunity to score in the first period with Mitch Marner on a breakaway, but a save from Scott Wedgewood prevented the Golden Knights from getting on the board.
While a shot from Colorado’s Brent Burns didn’t find the back of the net later in the first period, Ross Colton scored off a rebound to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead.
Vegas threatened to score once again on a power play in the second period, although Avalanche center Jack Drury blocked a shot by Shea Theodore.
The Golden Knights finally came alive during the third period, as Jack Eichel scored on a wrist shot to tie the game at 1-1 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the contest.
Just over two minutes later, Vegas took its first lead of the game following Ivan Barbashev’s goal.
A late comeback attempt from the Avalanche fell short, as Barbashev later scored on an empty net to seal the win for Vegas.
Colorado finished with just one goal despite taking 30 shots. It also recorded 16 giveaways as a team.
Barbashev racked up two goals and one assist for the Golden Knights, while Eichel tallied one goal and one assist.
Colorado will now need to win at least one game in Vegas in order to avoid elimination.
