The 100-ish-year-long wait is almost over for White Castle to make its Texas debut. The Midwestern fast-food burger chain is set to break ground soon on its first location in the Lone Star State.

Construction for White Castle’s new location at the Grandscape in The Colony, a suburban city about 30 miles north of Dallas, is scheduled to begin June 2, according to White Castle Chief Marketing Officer Jamie Richardson.

“We have our official groundbreaking ceremony on June 2 and look forward to opening our doors in late fall to start serving guests,” Richardson told Chron. The Dallas Business Journal first reported the groundbreaking news.

Richardson added the new White Castle is set to create 70 jobs.

“We can’t wait to get our first Texas Castle open!” she said.

The century-old burger chain, which originated in Wichita, Kan., in 1921 and now boasts more than 300 locations nationwide, announced its monumental move to Texas last August.

“White Castle has been creating memorable moments with our iconic hot and tasty Sliders for more than a century, and today, we are reaching a new milestone as we prepare to bring that Crave to Texas for the very first time,” White Castle CEO Lisa Ingram said last year when the expansion was announced.

“We couldn’t imagine a more fitting location than Grandscape in The Colony for our debut in the Lone Star State, and we can’t wait to welcome new Cravers into the White Castle family.”

While construction has yet to begin, the permit filed by the chain in December 2025 to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation revealed the 3,430-square-foot restaurant at 4520 Destination Dr. is expected to have a double drive-thru with both canopy and patio seating.

Up until this point, Texans have only been able to get a taste of White Castle in the frozen aisles of select supermarkets, or on a road trip up north (the closest White Castle to Texas is in Columbia, Mo.). Aside from its original sliders, the chain’s menu is also made up of breakfast bites, chicken rings, fries and other sides and sweet treats.
