It’s a longtime hockey superstition that some players won’t touch the trophy before they win it because they believe those who do will never win a championship.
The superstition even goes further than that with some players choosing to not touch or hoist the conference trophies even though they won the series, and they end up with this awkward photo op.
But some players feel that the Stanley Cup is the true championship trophy and should be the only thing that teams celebrate.
