‘Tulsa King’ Eyes Move to New York as Season 5 Writers’ Room Opens

“Tulsa King” will be on the move for a potential fifth season.

Variety has learned from sources that a writers’ room for Season 5 is now open, with Season 4 of the Sylvester Stallone-led Paramount+ show recently wrapping production. But while the show has mostly shot in Atlanta throughout its run, there are plans to relocate the production to New York for the next season.

Sources say the decision is driven by both budgetary and storyline considerations. New York has increased its film tax incentive program twice in the last three years under Gov. Kathy Hochul. It now totals $800 million annually, as New York seeks to compete with expanded incentives in New Jersey and other states. New York also now offers a 30% rebate, matching Georgia’s credit, and up to 40% for companies that invest at least $100 million. The state has also expanded coverage for above-the-line costs.

Storywise, Stallone’s character Dwight “The General” Manfredi is originally from New York before he was exiled by his Mafia associates to the titular Oklahoma city. While the events of Season 4 remain to be seen, it would make since for Dwight to eventually return home to face old enemies, etc.

It must be noted, however, that a Season 5 pickup has yet to be made official. But given the show’s popularity, it is more than likely.

Approximately 250 people work on the show’s crew in Atlanta, many of whom have been with the production since it began. There have also been issues on the show behind the scenes in the past, including the firing of over two dozen crew members going into Season 4 under the leadership of 101 Studios executive Scott Stone, who has become the de facto showrunner on the series in lieu of an actual showrunner.

“Tulsa King” Season 3 aired between September and November 2025. The fourth season was announced ahead of that season’s premiere. No premiere date has been set for Season 4 at the time of this publishing.

It is one of several Taylor Sheridan series currently on the Paramount+ slate, along with shows like “Landman,” “Lioness,” “The Madison,” “Dutton Ranch,” and “Mayor of Kingstown.”

Along with Stallone, the cast for Season 3 included: Martin Starr, Jay Will, Annabella Sciorra, Neal McDonough, Robert Patrick, Beau Knapp, Bella Heathcote, Chris Caldovino, McKenna Quigley Harrington, Mike “Cash Flo” Walden, Kevin Pollak, Vincent Piazza, Frank Grillo, Michael Beach, James Russo, with Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany.

Samuel L. Jackson also appeared in multiple episodes of Season 3 as Russell Lee Washington, Jr. The character was introduced as a well-known hitman who was in prison with Dwight. He is now set to head up his own spinoff series, “Frisco King.”

“Tulsa King” is executive produced by Sheridan, Stallone, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Jim McKay, Sheri Elwood, Ildy Modrovich and Keith Cox. Terence Winter served as head writer and executive producer on Season 4. The show is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios produce.
