Luckily, the popular creamery is sticking around, headed up by new owner Saul Andraca, who served the company as a longtime employee and, more recently, general manager.
The business announced in a Facebook post on June 4 that longtime owners Jim Jarreau and John Dubea are “moving to the other side of the counter.”
While ownership may be changing, locals shouldn’t expect a dramatic change to the beloved sweet shop. Andraca plans to continue the legacy that made Clear River Ice Cream one of the most iconic ice cream shops in the state.
“He knows the value of the local community and will continue to support schools, charities and the various organizations of Fredericksburg, TX,” the post reads.
According to the city’s tourism board, Visit Fredericksburg, the longtime staple is “definitely not an ordinary ice cream and bakery shop.” In 2013, Clear River was named the third best ice cream in the state by Texas Country Reporter, which is part of Texas Monthly.
Known for its scores of homemade, small-batch ice cream flavors, they’ve also won awards at the National Ice Cream Show for their Mexican Vanilla, Amaretto Peach and Pecan, and other scoops.
The Ice Cream shop has not returned MySA’s request fro comment.
