BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Roberson Museum is the Greater Binghamton Chamber Business of the Week.
The museum features exhibits ranging from art to science to history. It has been in the community since 1934 when it was the Roberson Mansion.
In 1954 it became open to the public and has remained a community staple ever since. Executive Director Michael Grasso says changes are coming to the museum, as it has been working on a capital campaign for the last few years.
He says $11 million has been raised out of the $12 million goal. Grasso says the changes will make the museum more accessible, improve services and create flexible spaces to hold workshops.
“We’re excited about what we can do and also really proud of what we have done, so I think that Roberson is special because of how well loved it is in this community,” Grasso said. “It’s a gem and there’s really no place else like it here in town.”
Grasso says the mansion has had lots of historic preservation over the years and that will continue, but the more modern wings are getting a full facelift.
He says construction for smaller projects will begin this year, but massive changes are coming next year.
