Atlanta Falcons Make Trade with Chiefs for OL Help

The Atlanta Falcons have reportedly acquired offensive tackle Wayna Morris, according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler. Several reports have indicated that the Chiefs will receive a 2027 sixth-round pick, while the Falcons will receive Morris and a 2027 seventh-round pick.

Morris, a former 2023 third-round pick and native of Grayson, GA, has 43 career games played (16 total starts) over his three seasons with Kansas City. As a rookie, he appeared in 14 games (four starts) for the eventual Super Bowl champions. Morris started 11 games in 2024, but only made one in 2025 over 12 appearances, with most of his work coming on special teams.

On December 8, Morris suffered a season-ending knee injury.

The offensive tackle position became very crowded in Kansas City, with the Chiefs adding Morris via the draft and Donovan Smith via free agency in 2023. They added draftee Kingsley Saumataia in 2024, but continued in 2025 by drafting Josh Simmons in the first round and signing Jaylon Moore in free agency.

He continued to fall down the depth chart, slipping behind Moore, Chukwuebuka Godrick, and Kahlil Benson during Chiefs OTAs. With a clear lack of playing time ahead of him in Kansas City, the 25-year-old requested a trade this offseason.

In Atlanta, the veteran will join a similiarly crowded offensive tackle room. He will compete with Jawaan Taylor (who also played for the Chiefs over the last several seasons), Michael Jerrell, Storm Norton, Jack Nelson, and Ethan Onianwa for the starting role with the Falcons at right tackle after longtime starter Kaleb McGary suddenly retired earlier this offseason.

With a pair of left-handed quarterbacks, the right tackle position takes on a unique role of importance. Kevin Stefanski and Tommy Rees expect to run a lot of under-center plays, meaning they will need more consistent blindside protection.

The Grayson native was a consensus five-star player for the Rams, but eventually committed to play for the Tennessee Volunteers. He started 12 of 13 games as a freshman, earning freshman All-America and freshman All-SEC honors. Morris followed up that season with nine games played (seven starts), but transferred at the end of his sophomore year when Jeremy Pruitt was fired.

With the Oklahoma Sooners, he started eight games (15 appearances) over his final two years of college. He earned second-team All-Big 12 honors as a senior and declared for the draft after skipping the Sooners’ bowl game.
