Knicks owner James Dolan appeared on WFAN Sports Radio and revealed that his championship-winning team has accepted an invitation to the White House to celebrate this year’s triumph.
“We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted,” Dolan said. “We still have to figure out the details, et cetera, but yes, of course. Look, I invited the President to come down for the game.
“He is a friend. I’ve known him for 30 years and I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House.”
Knicks set to become first NBA champion team to visit the White House under Donald Trump administration
A New York native and a well-known Knicks fan, Donald Trump infamously watched Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden. Due to his attendance, strict security measures were imposed by the authorities.
As such, the U.S. President received hostile treatment from fans inside the Garden, as he was notably booed during the national anthem before the game. He also went viral as he was caught sleeping during the match.
Dolan and the Knicks’ expected visit would end a longstanding trend during Trump’s presidency. Across two of Trump’s terms in office, no NBA championship team has visited the White House.
Last year, the Oklahoma City Thunder cited a “timing issue” that prevented them from making the appearance.
