A hidden gem coffee shop in downtown Phoenix’s Grand Avenue Arts District announced it will close after eight years.
Aftermarket, a combination art gallery and coffee shop, announced in an Instagram post that its last day of business will be Sunday, June 21.
“This space was never meant to be anything more than an art studio, until we found it. A deep city cut, hole-in-the-wall with so much potential…and our desire to share and connect. Grateful for it all,” read the Instagram post caption.
Several fans of the coffee shop left well-wishes in the comment section. One Instagram user wrote, “What a special place you created. Excited for you and your next chapter!”
Another commented, “Devastating news. Have loved walking to come visit and get a coffee or matcha. One of the most unique & stimulating spaces in phx. In a world where coffee shops are all starting to look & feel the same, y’all broke the mold.”
Aftermarket was opened in 2018 by Gino Belassen of Belhaus art gallery. Belassen did not wish to give a reason for the closure, but he told The Republic that Belhaus gallery on Seventh Street and Missouri Avenue will remain open.
The coffee shop served drinks from Caffio Espresso, a local roaster that also serves coffee at Pueblo, a plant store also on Grand Avenue, and the Uptown Farmer’s Market.
