A Send-Off with Scottish Spirit The Road to Miami

As thousands of Scottish men’s national team football supporters – affectionately known as The Tartan Army –  made their way through Boston during the FIFA World Cup, Delta joined the celebration with a spirited send-off worthy of one of the world’s most passionate fan bases.

For a few days in June, it seemed like Scotland had found a second home in Boston.

Kilts filled the streets. Bagpipes echoed through bars and ballparks. Scottish supporters turned heads everywhere they went, bringing their signature energy, humor and camaraderie to the city as they followed their national team through the FIFA World Cup.

And when it was time for the Tartan Army to head south for Scotland’s next match in Miami, Delta helped make the journey part of the celebration.

A Send-Off with Scottish Spirit

At Boston Logan International Airport, Delta created a themed send-off designed specifically for traveling Scottish supporters.

  • Priority boarding for fans wearing kilts or traveling with bagpipes, recognizing Scottish tradition
  • Scottish-inspired snacks, including shortbread at the gate
  • “Kilt Cam” photo experience, allowing fans to capture and share their journey
  • Farewell postcards, encouraging travelers to share memories from Boston

Together, the Boston airport teams transformed a standard gate departure into a culturally relevant and unforgettable fan experience.

The Road to Miami

As fans continued their World Cup journey from Boston to Miami, the gate celebrations reflected Delta’s growing presence in the city. Delta remains Boston’s No. 1 premium global carrier, operating more than 170 peak-day departures this summer and connecting customers to the moments, matches and destinations that matter most.

Just as memorable as the celebration itself were the Delta people behind it. Teams across Boston came together to surprise and delight customers, helping send the Tartan Army on its way with the same warmth and hospitality that had made Boston feel like a home away from home.

And if the sounds of bagpipes, the sightings of traditional Scottish kilts and the smiles throughout the terminal were any indication, Scotland left Boston with plenty of memories and perhaps a few new fans of its own.
