Metro Atlanta, key to British software giant Sage’s growth, also hosts a steady flow of successful British technology companies.

As England touts FIFA World Cup 2026™ victories most recently over Mexico on July 5 and before that over DR Congo on July 1 in Atlanta, GA at
Mercedes-Benz Stadium
(Atlanta Stadium), Atlanta celebrates significant British investment.

The United Kingdom is a critical economic partner for Georgia, with bilateral trade regularly exceeding $5.7 billion. More than 500 British-owned facilities operate in the state, employing more than 22,000 people. The British Consulate General, one of the state’s oldest foreign diplomatic posts, has maintained a consular presence in Georgia since 1804.

British software giant
Sage
has a long history in metro Atlanta, first acquiring Georgia-based Peachtree Software in the late 1990s.

Headquartered in Atlanta’s sister city Newcastle upon Tyne, England, Sage provides accounting, payroll, and business management technology for small and medium-sized businesses. Founded in 1981 as a startup, the company has grown into the United Kingdom’s second-largest technology company and is a fixture on the London Stock Exchange. Although a British company, the United States is Sage’s largest market, accounting for about 40% of the organization’s global revenue.

Sage established metro Atlanta as its home in North America in 2015 when the company and acquired California-based startup Intacct, expanding its footprint in the region.

In 2025, Sage opened a new North American headquarters in Atlanta’s Ponce City Market. The flagship office features the first Sage Discovery Center – an interactive space where small and medium-sized businesses can explore the company’s AI-powered solutions and collaborate with experts to accelerate growth. It’s also a hub for the local community and non-profits, hosting nearly 70 community engagements in this space since it opening its doors officially in July 2025.

A year after the move, Sage announced an expansion of the Ponce City Market office in March 2026, bringing the company’s total footprint to 89,000 square feet. The expansion will allow Sage to add up to 200 additional local jobs, increasing their Atlanta staff from 450 to approximately 650 employees and reflects the company’s enduring commitment to Atlanta.

As Sage continues to expand and innovate, Atlanta plays a crucial role in the company’s growth strategy. Commonly referred to as the technology capital of the Southeast, Atlanta offers a robust business ecosystem, a highly skilled and diverse workforce and a culture of innovation. According to Sage, these advantages make Atlanta the ideal location for the company’s continued investment.

“Atlanta offers a powerful combination of talent, connectivity and a thriving business environment, making it a natural home for Sage’s continued growth in North America,” said

Mark Hickman

, Managing Director of Sage North America. “Our investment at Ponce City Market reflects not only our confidence in the region, but also our commitment to creating high-quality jobs and supporting the local business community. We’re proud to be part of Atlanta’s ongoing economic momentum and to help small and mid-sized businesses across the region innovate and grow.”

Sage is part of a steady flow of British technology companies investing in Atlanta.

Yaspa
, a London-based fintech firm specializing in open banking and AI-driven payments, established its North American headquarters in Atlanta in 2025.

Earlier this year, London startup
ekko
, which helps payment processors and merchants integrate climate consciousness into customer payment journeys, also chose Atlanta for its North American headquarters.

MHR Global Ltd
, known for AI-enabled HR, payroll, and finance software, recently chose Atlanta to house its North American headquarters as well.

London & Partners
, the economic development agency for the London region, has led multiple enterprise technology delegations to Atlanta, the latest mission in March 2026.

“Many of our tech leaders in London have expressed a desire to tap into the prevalent enterprise and fintech Atlanta market,” said

Amrit Kang

, Vice President for the East Coast at London & Partners. “Atlanta is consistently ranked among the top cities for Fortune 500 headquarters and companies have taken notice.”

In addition to the nearly 20
Fortune
500 headquarters in Atlanta, 70% of all payment transactions in the U.S. are processed by metro Atlanta-based firms, earning the region the nickname “Transaction Alley.”

“Atlanta is not only a fintech powerhouse, but offers a highly skilled, diverse workforce, collaborative business environment and global connectivity,” said

Stefan Harrigan

, Senior Manager, Global Business Development, Metro Atlanta Chamber. “These are just some of the reasons why Atlanta is such an attractive destination for British companies.”
