H-E-B has confirmed its plans to open a store on the far East Side in late 2026.
Construction work on the $21.2 million store is already underway. The new store is part of “H-E-B’s investment in a rapidly growing area on San Antonio’s eastern edge,” according to a news release.
The location, situated near Converse, will employ 400 people and feature a True Texas BBQ restaurant with indoor seating, a drive-thru pharmacy, curbside pickup and home delivery service. In addition to the grocery store, the site will feature new retail buildings and opportunities for future developments, according to the release.
The company is adding new stores at a fast pace. It’s opened more than 30 stores across Texas in recent years, including an 111,000-square-foot location near the UTSA campus last year and a 126,986-square-foot store on the far West Side in January. H-E-B also is in the process of building a 114,000-square-foot store at Interstate 35 and McCarty Lane, south of downtown San Marcos. It also recently purchased 44 acres of undeveloped land along Interstate 35 in north San Marcos and has drawn up a site plan for a potential supermarket there.
