Gable Steveson embracing status as massive favorite early in career | UFC 329
Gable Steveson speaks to MMA Junkie Radio ahead of his UFC debut against Elisha Ellison at UFC 329.
Gable Steveson hopes Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier could put their rivalry aside for the sake of training.
Steveson (3-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is a massive favorite in his octagon debut against Elisha Ellison (5-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 329 prelims at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (Paramount+).
Olympic gold medalist wrestler Steveson is former UFC dual-champion Jones’ protege. While he plans to continue training with him for the rest of his career, he’d also like the opportunity to hit the mats with fellow Olympian Cormier.
“I’ve always been with Jon,” Steveson told MMA Junkie Radio. “I would love to get some one-one-one training with DC. I mean, I’ve always told Jon that DC is a fantastic fighter, and he’s one of my top two fighters of all time. I would enjoy a few classes with DC to learn how he processed fighting, how he managed from wrestling to come to fighting.
“I would love that. It would be an honor to be a part of a team with DC and have DC kind of guide me in the right direction, but I’ve been with Jon my whole short career right now, and I plan on keeping Jon forever. But I would love to have DC give me a few lessons.”
Steveson has never gone past the first round, but if he were to at UFC 329, Jones would be right there guiding him.
“Who would come in if it goes past the first round is Jon Jones or Greg Jackson will come in,” Steveson said. “But everybody’s treated the same. Everybody has their own speciality. In my eyes, there’s no head person. Everybody has their own place according to who they need to be, so everyone is treated the same in my book.”
