HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – It’s a decision that is making waves across Huntington, and now Mayor Patrick Farrell is sitting down with WSAZ’s Tim Irr to talk Flock.
Earlier this week, Huntington City Council voted to adopt a resolution to enter into a five-year $2 million contract with Flock Safety to purchase new public safety technology.
That technology includes more than 40 license plate readers, two drones, 17 cameras, two gunshot detectors, as well as other technology that is not described in the city’s product order form.
The resolution was adopted after a 6-4 vote, and an hours-long meeting where more than 50 members of the public spoke, all but one against the resolution.
Mayor Patrick Farrell and Huntington Police Chief Phil Watkins spoke in favor of the Flock technology at the City Council meeting, arguing it will improve the city’s public safety.
Now, for the first time since the resolution passed, Tim Irr is sitting down with Mayor Farrell to discuss what the decision means for the community moving forward.
