The news: NBCUniversal’s Telemundo network acquired exclusive US Spanish-language TV rights for all Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) men’s soccer competitions, including the Champions League.

The Champions League brings together 36 of Europe’s leading football clubs and is considered the “most prestigious annual club tournament in world soccer,” notes the Athletic.

  • The deal will begin in the 2027-28 season and will last three years. In addition to the Champions League, Telemundo gains exclusive US Spanish-language rights to the UEFA Europa League, Conference League, and Super Cup.
  • Games will air on Telemundo, Peacock, Universo, and Telemundo’s free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel.

Why it matters: Strong 2026 World Cup viewership—Telemundo’s coverage drew a record-breaking 61 billion minutes consumed—and the UEFA deal reinforces that Hispanic sports audiences can no longer be treated as a niche buy.

  • US Hispanics are a rapidly expanding viewer group with significant buying power and purchase intent. Nearly three-quarters of US Hispanics believe companies advertising in Spanish respect their culture and want their business, per an MRI-Simmons report.
