H-E-B isn’t just opening new stores in North Texas. It’s investing in its existing sites as well.
The San Antonio based-grocer has made plans for “fresh initiative” improvements at more than half a dozen stores in the region, according to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in roughly the past two months. In total, the projects are valued at over $4 million. Details in TDLR filings are preliminary and can change without notice.
“This is part of our continued investment in our stores,” the company said in an emailed statement. “The scope of work will vary at each location. Mostly, they are minor remodels that involve equipment upgrades.”
H-E-B has been stepping up efforts in recent years in North Texas as it’s built its namesake stores while competing with names such as Walmart, Kroger and Tom Thumb. The company recently opened three stores in as many months in the region with the most recent being in Murphy.

While the investments are assisting stores in the D-FW area, many other parts of the state are set for “fresh initiative” improvements as well. They include Pflugerville, San Antonio and Midland, filings show.
