The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company announced more frequent service between Phoenix and Dallas.

In a release, BNSF said the expansion lays the groundwork for the railway’s new intermodal facility under construction in Wittmann.

BNSF said they are increasing their freight service frequency between Phoenix and the intermodal facility north of Dallas due to increased demand. The railway did not specify how frequently the previous schedule ran, but the expanded service will run six days a week.

BNSF says the route takes just over three days, and the enhanced service is designed to convert freight truck traffic to rail.

The expanded service lays the groundwork for additional growth and capacity in Arizona. BNSF is in the process of building a controversial new intermodal facility in Wittmann, with the first phase expected to open in early 2027.

“As freight capacity and demand continue to evolve, we remain focused on investing in solutions that help customers grow with BNSF,” said BNSF Group Vice President of Consumer Products Jon Gabriel in the release. “The Phoenix and North Texas markets represent significant opportunities for shippers, and this service expansion is another step toward providing the infrastructure and transportation solutions needed to support that growth.”

  • Waymo is expanding its services in metro Phoenix. The autonomous ride hailing company is adding 55 square miles to its service area.

  • The Mohave County Board of Supervisors say the Laughlin-Bullhead International Airport has operated at a deficit of more than $500,000 per year for the last three years.

  • Since July of last year, the airport has set organizational records in five major categories, including passenger activity, operating revenue, net income, fuel sales, and parking revenue.

  • On the hottest days, thinner air can make it harder for aircraft to get off the ground safely. Airlines may have to lighten the load by removing passengers or cargo, or carrying less fuel.

  • The Phoenix Area Modernization Project is a proposal by the FAA to consolidate air traffic to set routes. As drafted, it would increase noise from air traffic by as much as 6 decibels.
