Jake Oettinger has been a mainstay in net for the Dallas Stars for several years at this point, and throughout his career, he’s established himself as a top goaltender in hockey.
That remains the case heading into the 2026-27 NHL season.
Oettinger, or “Otter,” as he’s affectionately called by teammates and fans alike, was taken by Dallas in the first round of the 2017 NHL draft and made to be the Stars’ cornerstone goalie. He made his debut in the 2020-21 season and has been the Stars’ top goalie since the 2021-22 season, including an All-Star selection and three top-10 finishes in Vezina Trophy voting.
His numbers dipped a little bit in 2025-26, but he still posted an impressive record and was a key piece for a Stars team that was among the best in all of hockey.
See what NHL Network had to say about Oettinger heading into the season below.
7. Jake Oettinger
NHL Network: “Over the past five seasons, Oettinger’s 173 wins trail only Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning (180) and Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets (173). He’s had at least 30 wins in each of them, including going 35-12-6 with a 2.59 GAA, .899 save percentage and four shutouts in 54 games last season. The 27-year-old also helped the Stars advance to the Western Conference Final in three straight seasons from 2023-25; his 29 wins over that span are second in the postseason behind Sergei Bobrovsky (44) of the Florida Panthers.”
