Warriors predicted to trade for $364M 10x All-Star, ex-Lakers NBA champion to pair with Steph Curry originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Golden State Warriors are in an interesting position as they try to decide whether to build for the future or give Steph Curry a few more chances to compete for another championship. This summer, the Warriors have arguably failed Curry as he enters the latter stages of his career.

Golden State was unable to sign anyone of major significance and also missed out on LeBron James. However, Curry is still expected to sign a contract extension with the franchise.
“What the terms of a new extension look like for Curry will be completely up to him, as the Warriors are prepared to offer their star whatever he wants. If Steph wants the full $136.7 million through the 2028-29 season, he will get that. If he wants to take a discount to help the team, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. will have no problem with said deal,” NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote.
The Warriors could still make significant moves before the trade deadline in February. SI’s Blake Silverman believes Golden State could eventually make a push to acquire Anthony Davis.
“The Wizards likely want to at least try the Davis experiment, but there’s a world where a team like Golden State gets desperate enough to improve the roster and offers a package general manager Will Dawkins can’t turn down,” Silverman wrote.

This would make sense for the Warriors, as they appear to be trying to put together one more championship run around Curry. At the beginning of free agency, Golden State was already generating serious buzz as a potential landing spot for Davis via trade.
“The Golden State Warriors are planning a pursuit of LeBron James in free agency and Anthony Davis via trade this week, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania, opening up the flexibility for such a possibility after Draymond Green declined his $27.6 million player option Monday morning,” ESPN’s Anthony Slater wrote.
Acquiring Davis would be a massive move for the Warriors and could give the team another elite option on both ends of the floor. Davis’ defensive resume speaks for itself, and pairing that with Curry’s offensive brilliance could give Golden State a dangerous combination.
Davis has made $364 million throughout his career. Curry and Davis on the same team could form a lethal duo if they can stay healthy. Adding Davis could give the Warriors exactly what they need to make another deep playoff run and potentially compete for one more championship with Curry.
