DENVER – Former University of Denver Pioneers Alex Simmons and Casey Wilson, coached by William G. Tierney Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Matt Brown and Denver assistant John Gallant won gold for Team Canada at the 2026 Pan American Lacrosse Championship on Sunday in Kingston, Jamaica.
Simmons had four goals and an assist in the win, including the game-tying goal and game-winning goal in the final 92 seconds of proceedings.
In the first half, Simmons had a goal and an assist, but it was Eric Law and the United States that had a 5-4 lead at the break. USA stretched its lead to 7-4 early in the second half before Simmons netted his second to cut the deficit back to two with just under 20 minutes left to play.
The United States led 8-5 after the third quarter before Canada ended the game on a 4-0 run that included a game-tying goal from Simmons with 1:32 left and the game-winner with 20 seconds to go to send the Canadians home with the Gold Medal.
Wilson captained the Canadian side, while fellow former Pioneer Law captained the United States in the finale on Sunday.
