The city of Phoenix and TSMC Arizona are teaming up Friday to help fill hundreds of technician positions as the semiconductor giant continues its massive north Phoenix buildout.
The invite-only recruiting event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. using the city’s Mobile Career Unit parked directly at TSMC’s campus near 51st Avenue and Carefree Highway (5088 W. Innovation Circle).
City leaders will meet on-site with candidates who were pre-screened and completed applications during a prior career event earlier this month. Those who advance through Friday’s next-step interviews will be given the opportunity to interview directly with TSMC Arizona for an equipment, facilities, manufacturing or processing technician role.
A college degree is not required for any of the available technician positions.
TSMC Arizona currently employs about 3,500 workers on its way to a target goal of 6,000 employees.
What TSMC Arizona is looking for in candidates
The semiconductor company is actively filling four distinct technician tracks:
Manufacturing technicians: Candidates need basic computer literacy and strong attention to detail. No formal licenses are required, though past experience in retail, warehouse operations, assembly or military service is helpful.
Equipment technicians: Requires skills in mechanical repair, electrical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and hand tools. Preferred backgrounds include HVAC maintenance, automotive repair, aviation mechanics, robotics or military hardware repair.
Facility technicians: Candidates will manage industrial HVAC, electrical grids, plumbing, chemical delivery and wastewater systems. Trade experience in commercial facility maintenance, pipefitting, refrigeration or water treatment operations is preferred.
Process technicians: Duties include monitoring data charts, handling chemicals and basic troubleshooting. Desired experience includes laboratory testing, chemical plant operations or quality control inspection.
Alternative pathways into the semiconductor industry
Applicants who do not move forward in Friday’s interview process will be directed toward free, intensive technician training programs offered by TSMC Arizona in partnership with Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University and Northern Arizona University.
The next training cohort begins in September, and applications for the training pathways close on Aug. 31.
