We’re closing in on a year since El Bolillo Bakery began making big moves in San Antonio to open its first-ever Alamo City location. The Houston-based panadería chain is inching toward the San Antonio finish line, so MySA checked in on the location’s progress to get a sense of when the outpost might be ready to launch.

Right now, construction is well underway on San Antonio’s first El Bolillo Bakery, as the facade and general exterior features have taken shape, adding a new look and color scheme to the previously drab building. Orange and mustard-colored accents have added warmth to the former strip club’s outer layer, but there’s still plenty of unfinished details, as seen during MySA’s latest look on Friday, August 28.

The large awning for vehicle drop-offs that once stood on the building’s northern side has been torn down and is seemingly being reconstructed to match the property’s new aesthetic. A permanent sign for El Bolillo Bakery has not yet been installed, but a marquee from the AllStars days still stands and now reads, “El Bolillo Bakery coming soon.”

MySA reached out to El Bolillo Bakery to ask about the projected timeline for opening the San Antonio location, but we have not yet heard back. However, within the last week, the panadería teased its upcoming addition on social media, offering a vague sense of when the San Antonio spot might open.

“San Antonio, we’re almost there! This year-end, we’ll be with you, serving up our delicious traditional pan dulce. We can’t wait to see you enjoying your conchas, bolillos, tamales, cafecito, and more at our new location!” the post said on Instagram.
