The home’s architect drew inspiration directly from French chateaus. Its lead builder brought back tile from the same seek-and-emulate European trip. Its owners say it was a great house in which to raise children and entertain.
Now that the kids are in college, Rod and Linda Windley are looking to sell their not-so-little piece of heaven in Sandy Springs, Ga., for $18.25 million.
The listing caught the eye of Wall Street Journal luxury-residence reporter Sarah Paynter, who wrote the text to a photo-essay published Aug. 28.

Windley’s present post is chairman of the board for Aveanna Healthcare. His former roles included top-dog positions at PSA Healthcare, Central Health Services, The Healthfield Group and Gentiva Health Services.
Noting that the Windleys bought the 7-acre property in 2007 from country singer Kenny Rogers for $3.55 million, Paynter reports that the couple completed the home-build in 2014.
“I’ve always loved French architecture and French antiques and the whole French thing,” Rod Windley tells Paynter.
Despite the exclusive air of the mansion, he suggests, it has a genuine home-sweet-home vibe in many of its stately rooms.
“Everything feels like a family lives here,” says Windley, who also owns restaurants, “and a family does live here.”
Health execs aspiring to the heights of the industry could draw inspiration from the Windleys much like the family did while house-touring in France.
Indeed, the Georgia home is just one of three they currently own, albeit the biggest.
