On Thursday, the Chicago Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Barbara Suplit as the Chief of the Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW), a role that strengthens Chicago Public Schools’ (CPS) commitment to student health, wellness, and health equity. As the Chief of OSHW, Dr. Suplit will lead efforts to advance District-wide initiatives to ensure greater access to health and wellness measures, especially for our most vulnerable students, and provide consistent support when responding to student health issues. Before joining CPS, Dr. Suplit served at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health in Palo Alto, California, where she served as executive director, Center for Advanced Practice. In this role, she provided strategic and operational oversight for advanced practice registered nurses, physician assistants, certified nurse-midwives, and genetic counselors. Dr. Suplit also dedicated 21 years to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. There, she worked as an advanced practice registered nurse in the Department of Psychiatry, specializing in emergency psychiatry, psychiatric urgent care, and outpatient care.
