SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A massive fire is burning at a pallet manufacturing facility in South Fulton, sending heavy black smoke into the air.

The fire is at the 5500 block of Mallory Road. Fire crews are on the scene and continuing suppression operations, with Fairburn Fire units assisting the City of South Fulton.
The city issued a smoke advisory Sunday and said no toxic hazard has been identified.
“It’s extraordinary to see this much plumes of smoke from Clayton County to College Park,” said one nearby witness. “It’s very scary.”
Heavy smoke and falling debris are affecting portions of the surrounding area. Residents and businesses are being urged to stay away from the scene, keep roadways clear for emergency vehicles and follow directions from public safety officials.
The city said the smoke plume is not toxic, but warned that inhaling any type of smoke can irritate the eyes and throat and may cause coughing or difficulty breathing.
Anyone in the path of the smoke plume should stay indoors, close windows and doors and avoid drawing outside air into their home until the smoke clears. People with asthma or other respiratory conditions are urged to take additional precautions.
Several people in the area reported hearing loud booms and feeling their homes shake. Channel 2 Action News video shows large plumes of black smoke rising from the fire.
It is not yet clear what caused the fire.
Fire suppression operations remain ongoing. The city is urging people to rely on official public safety channels for updates and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
