STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The University of Denver volleyball team battled through a five-set match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, falling 3-2 to open play at the Tarleton State Invitational. The Pioneers dropped the opening set, 23-25, before rallying to take the second and third sets, 26-24 and 26-24, then falling 22-25 in the fourth set and 6-15 in the deciding fifth set.
LEADERS
Alicia Thibodeau led the Pioneers with 16 kills, while Jamia Johnson added 10 and Romi Chlebecek contributed seven kills while hitting .636. Lily Van Hal recorded 24 assists, while Ilayda Eren added 19. Madison Winkler led Denver with 18 digs, followed by Kayla Patel with 17.

The Pioneers will continue play at the Tarleton State Invitational on Friday, facing tournament host Tarleton State at 5 p.m. MT in Stephenville, Texas.
