Since many have been pretty hard on our transfer kicker for missing a 45 yard FG to ice the game. I thought I’d look @ the actual data.Pretty eye opening. Now these are averages so I’m sure there are a few kickers averaging 80-90% for all their kicks. They are outliers moreso than the norm. I just googled college level FG% vs NFL. It gives ESPN as the source.
NFL kickers convert field goals at a significantly higher rate than college kickers, averaging an overall success rate of roughly 83% to 85% compared to the college (NCAA FBS) average of around 75%.
What I takeaway from these numbers is don’t rely on FG’s to win ball games. Execute in the red zone and score TD’s.Our kicker was 3/4 right at the average for college level kickers.
NCAA NFL
Under 40 85-87.5% 95%
40-49 60-70% 82%
50+ 46-53.9% 65-70%
