A Persian-Mediterranean restaurant’s run in Houston’s Heights neighborhood has come. After relocating to Houston from California in 2024, Herand’s Kitchen at 2601 Baylor St. is closing. Owner and chef Herand Tahmasian made the announcement on social media Monday.
“After much thought, Herand has decided that the time is right to step away from the restaurant and begin a new chapter. We are immensely proud of everything Herand’s Kitchen accomplished and grateful for the friendships, memories and wonderful moments created along the way,” Herand’s statement read.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for dining with us, recommending us, sharing our posts and supporting our family business. It has been an amazing journey, and your support has meant more to us than words can express.”
Tahmasian opened Herand’s Kitchen in Glendale, Calif. in 2021. In 2024, he moved his namesake restaurant and kabobs to Texas. He told the Houston Chronicle the move allowed him to be closer to his son and grandchildren in Houston.
Though it was a different location, he kept the restaurant’s same mix of Persian and Greek dishes in a casual, counter-service space with a patio in a historic post office building—a fusion of cuisines inspired by the food the Armenian chef often cooked for his children and Greek wife.
Herand’s announcement didn’t include details about what led to his decision to close or if he plans to open another restaurant. Chron has reached out for more information.
