ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – St. Louis County Executive Sam Page signed an executive order Friday that calls for a review of automated license plate recognition technology, or ALPR.
The order directs a review of ALPR technology, such as Flock cameras, that is used on county property. In a statement, Page said this is to focus on public safety while protecting people’s privacy.
This order follows Gov. Mike Kehoe’s recent executive order concerning safeguards for ALPRs. The order directs the county’s Department of Transportation and Public Works to conduct an audit of the cameras and review ALPR procedures.
The order also requests that the St. Louis County Board of Police Commissioners and the Police Department review their ALPR policies and make appropriate revisions where necessary to establish clear rules regarding ALPR use.
Page said the order takes effect immediately.
