ORLAND PARK, Ill. (WLS) — For Diana Roth, beauty is about more than what people see in the mirror. It has become a passion and a business she has built from the ground up.
Roth opened The Browtique in Orland Park in 2009 after growing up in Blue Island. She said decades of experience doing eyebrows have given her a foundation for building her business.
“after a couple decades of doing eyebrows, you pretty much have a good foundation to guide you on what to do and what not to do,” Roth said.
Over the years, Roth has developed techniques including a powder brow service, which she said applies pigment without creating an incision in the skin.
“it taps the pigment in as opposed to creating incision into the skin like micro blading,” Roth said.
Roth said her drive to succeed has helped her build a loyal clientele. Her dog, Bishop, is also a constant presence in the shop.
“even though we are a very small scale set up, I’m still very proud of it,” said Roth, owner of The Browtique and Chimi.
In recent years, Roth has expanded her business beyond eyebrow services through another passion: fragrance.
Roth began exploring niche and indie perfumes and saw an opportunity to bring those brands into her own space. She called the fragrance business Chimi, pronounced “Shimmy.”
“it’s not just about smelling good. There’s so much more to it. It’s how it impacts us, our feeling,s our emotions there’s a lot of depth and history,” Roth said.
Roth traveled to Paris for a fragrance conference, where she made connections with perfume makers whose products she features in her store. She said she focuses on minority- and women-owned brands.
“that is what i really want to focus on going forward with Chimi. Offering things you can’t find at these large retailers that are available here in Orland park,” Roth said.
The result is a business that combines eyebrow services with an opportunity for customers to discover niche and independent fragrances in Orland Park.
