HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KATV) — Hispanic Heritage Month is in full swing, and Hot Springs is getting ready to celebrate with food, music, dancing and even a little wrestling flair at the third annual Hispanic Heritage Festival.

The festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, at the historic Hot Springs Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizers Abril Reyes and Jacob Flores said the event has grown over the past two years and is adding new attractions this time around.

Along with dances representing Spain, Peru and Mexico, the festival will also feature lucha libre. Reyes said the wrestling will run for about an hour after the start of the event.

The festival is designed to highlight Hispanic and Latino culture and the contributions those communities make locally. Reyes said it’s important during Hispanic Heritage Month to recognize “the contributions, culture, traditions that Hispanic and Latino communities can contribute not only to Arkansas but to Hot Springs as well.”

Visitors can expect a full lineup of entertainment, including live music from Flores, who said his set will include “a little bit of everything.” Flores also connects the celebration to well-being, noting that music can be “good for your soul, your mental health,” and said he’s looking forward to “playing different styles and just bringing some positivity to the community.”

Food will be a big part of the day, too. Reyes said there will be Peruvian and Mexican options, adding, “If you’re a foodie, yes, come hungry.” She said tacos will be on the menu.

Organizers also have a backup plan if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Reyes said vendors are being encouraged to bring canopies, and if needed, entertainment will be moved under the rotunda at the farmers market.

Beyond the fun, the festival is also a fundraiser for children’s mental health. Reyes said all proceeds raised will go to Washington Behavioral Health and Wellness’ children’s programs. She said the need is personal and urgent, explaining that some children “either don’t have insurance, or they don’t, their insurances that cover all the services that are required for them,” and the festival’s fundraising will help “fill the gap.”

The festival will open with Hot Springs Mayor Pat McKay, who is expected to announce a proclamation recognizing the contributions Hispanic and Latino communities have made to Hot Springs and surrounding areas.
